State Overseas Chinese Office: overseas Chinese to settle in their home country conditions will be relaxed

"In the future, overseas Chinese will no longer have to go through the public security department to settle in their home country, but through the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office at the county level or above can apply for settlement in their home country." Qiu Yuanping, director of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council, said this in the first online interview held at the press center of the National "Two Sessions" on the evening of March 5.

Qiu said that in order to provide more convenience for overseas Chinese to return to their home countries for family visits and employment, the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council, together with relevant departments, has been pushing forward or introducing some corresponding policies in this regard. Last year, the "Exit and Entry Administration Law of the People's Republic of China" and "Regulations of the People's Republic of China on the Entry and Exit Administration of Foreigners" were enacted and introduced, according to these two laws and regulations, first of all, the overseas Chinese, that is, overseas Chinese citizens to settle in their home countries made clear provisions: an adjustment, that is, in the past he wanted to settle in their home countries, need to go through the public security department, but now it is clear that you can go through the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office at the county level or above for Settlement in China. Of course, this settlement is to restore the hukou, or to reopen the hukou, which belongs to the new policy for overseas Chinese. The main focus of this adjustment is to increase the types of visas, and the increased types of visas are related to foreign Chinese. The main thing here is to provide longer visas for foreign Chinese who come to visit their relatives in China. In addition, some special talents or high-end talents also provide a relatively longer visa period.

Qiu Yuanping also said that, despite this, there are still many overseas compatriots reflecting that the threshold of the "green card" is too high. In this regard, the State Council Overseas Chinese Affairs Office is also actively communicating with relevant departments to promote the gradual relaxation of the "green card" conditions. The general trend is that both the visa and the scope of the "green card" issuance will continue to advance in the direction of more convenient for overseas Chinese to return to China for various affairs.
