Live-in Caregiver Immigration



In 2014, Canada will accept 17,500 permanent resident applications for live-in caregivers, double the number in 2013 and the most since the program was implemented in 1993.




1. Apply for a live-in nanny work permit


- Graduated from high school or higher.


- Six months of full-time training within the last three years in the field of early childhood education, elder care, or child care, where full-time training is defined as 25-30 hours/week; or one year of relevant work experience and at least six months working for the same employer.


- A certain level of English or French to be able to perform the duties of a live-in nanny. Usually, an applicant is able to achieve a score of 5 on the IELTS test; or may be required to interview.


- Sign a contract with a qualified Canadian employer.




2. Apply for permanent residency in Canada


- 24 months of legal full-time live-in nanny work, or 3900 hours and a minimum of 22 months of legal full-time live-in nanny work.


- This work experience must have been obtained in Canada within the 4 years prior to application.
