Many international students have the idea of staying in the destination country to work or even immigrate, but they are unable to do so due to the high threshold and changing requirements of immigration policies. Alberta, Canada has 2 immigration categories for international students to work locally, which is a great blessing for international students who do not have high scores in the federal EE/other provinces' nomination chances.

POST-GRADUATE WORKER: Graduates who have completed at least 1 year of full-time post-secondary education in Alberta, have a legal work visa (PGWP), and meet the relevant conditions can immigrate. NOC 0/A/B are all eligible, and most NOC C jobs are also eligible. --- For students who have already studied/graduated at ALBERTA, are planning to come to Canada to study, or are even willing to transfer

INTERNATIONAL GRADUATE: Graduates who have completed at least one year of full-time post-secondary education in Canada, have a legal work visa (PGWP), and meet the relevant conditions can immigrate. NOC 0/A/B are all eligible, and most NOC C jobs are eligible. --- For students who have graduated outside of ALBERTA and have low EE scores, and have little chance of being nominated by other provinces

1. POST-GRADUATE WORKER

The new immigration program of AINP is "Strategic Recruitment Stream Post-Graduate Worker Category", the new category is applicable to applicants who Graduates who have attended an accredited school in Alberta for at least one year of post-secondary education, but must have a post-graduation work permit issued by the Ministry of Immigration and must be working full-time for an Alberta company at the time of application.

The categories apply to occupations in categories 0 (management), A (skilled work), B (semi-skilled or skilled work), and C (low-skilled work) of the National Occupational Code (NOC). The province has also compiled an "Ineligible Occupations List" to help applicants know if they are eligible for the jobs they are doing.

According to the Department of Immigration, although the new category does not require an employer to fill out an application form, the applicant must still obtain proof of employment from the employer, as well as a description of the job and proof that he or she is being paid the average salary for similar jobs in the province.

HELPTEAM believes that this policy is a good news for Chinese students. It is suitable for most international students to apply because the language requirements, etc. for applicants are not high.

The old immigration category required employers to apply, and sometimes the companies where the international students worked would reject the employers' applications because they did not want to go through the complicated application process, which also reduced the job stability and promotion of the international students in the company, because the employers were also worried that the international students might leave at any time. This new category simplifies the immigration application process for international students and provides a new immigration channel for international students without work experience, helping them to study, work and settle in Canada with greater peace of mind.

2. International graduation

The new immigration program under the AINP is the Employer-Driven Stream/International Graduate criteria. Applicants must have a post-graduation work permit issued by the Department of Immigration and must be working full-time for a company in Alberta at the time of application. The category applies to the same occupations.

The categories apply to occupations that also cover National Occupational Code (NOC) categories 0 (management), A (skilled work), B (semi-skilled or skilled work), and C (low-skilled work). The province has also developed an "Ineligible Occupations List" to help applicants know if they are eligible for a job.

It is important to note that the employer is required to complete an application form and the applicant is still required to obtain proof of employment from the employer, as well as a description of the job and proof that the salary received is the average for similar jobs in the province. However, there is no work experience requirement

HELPTEAM believes that this policy is good news for Chinese students graduating outside of Alberta. Since the language requirements for applicants are not high, no work experience is required, and no LMIA is required, it is suitable for most international students to apply.

In addition, the two categories are widely available to international students studying in Alberta/other parts of Canada for undergraduate programs, master's programs, graduate diploma programs, post-secondary programs, etc. The job categories must meet the National Occupational Standards of Canada (NOC) categories 0, A, B and C. Specifically, category O occupations are managerial jobs, which are difficult for a newly graduated international student to do and can basically be ignored. Category A, on the other hand, is for technical jobs, which generally require a college education level, Category B is for semi-skilled or skilled jobs, which generally require a college education level, and Category C is for low-skilled jobs, which generally require specific vocational training or a secondary education level.

However, not every job in categories 0, A, B and C is eligible. For this reason, the province has compiled a list of ineligible jobs to help applicants understand whether or not they are eligible for the job they are applying for, and international students can use the list to conduct their job search and even plan their study abroad program.

The list of ineligible jobs covers a wide range of occupations, including engineering occupations, high school teachers, real estate agents, barbers, athletes, actors, court personnel, and security officers.
