Latest Parent/Grandparent Super Visa Requirements and Steps
Super Visa for Parents / Grandparents
On November 5, 2011, Immigration Canada suspended accepting sponsored parent/grandparent applications for two years (sponsored parent applications were reopened on January 2, 2014). At the same time, the federal immigration department introduced a 10-year multiple-entry visa, known as the Super Visa, to allow parents/grandparents who do not have an immigrant visa to join their families in their home country first. Parents/grandparents who come to Canada on a Super Visa can stay for up to two years at a time. You can also apply for an extension of up to two years at the end of the two-year period. If you or your parents/grandparents would like to apply for a Super Visa, purchase Super Visa insurance, or apply for a Super Visa extension, please contact us today.
Super Visa Application Requirements:
The Super Visa applicant's children/grandchildren in Canada (i.e., the invitee) must have the following minimum family income requirements (Low Income Cut-Off) :
Family Size + Number of Invitees Minimum Annual Family Income Requirement
2 persons $29,716
3 persons $36,520
4 persons $44,340
5 persons $50,290
6 persons $56,718
7 persons $63,147
For each additional person over 7, add: $6,429
Immigration Canada adjusts the minimum income requirements annually. The above requirements apply only to Super Visa applications made before December 31, 2015.
Parents/grandparents must pass a medical examination. The medical clearance requirements for Super Visa applications are the same as those for Canadian immigrant visas.
Super Visa applicants must have at least 1 year of health insurance coverage of at least $100,000 from a Canadian insurance company. Proof of purchased health insurance must be submitted with the Super Visa application. If the Super Visa application is denied, the insurance company will refund the full amount of the premium paid. If the parent/grandparent has been in Canada for less than one year on a Super Visa and has not filed a claim with the insurance company, the insurance company will refund the balance of the remaining days to the Super Visa applicant after deducting a processing fee ($20-$40).
