The new policy of Quebec experience immigration is coming!
I'm sure those of you who are concerned about immigration to Quebec, Canada, must have mixed feelings today. Early in the morning, we saw the new Quebec Experience-based Immigration (PEQ) policy, and some people are happy and some are worried. So let's see, what kind of changes make everyone so apprehensive?
In the past, PEQ program focused on Study and Immigration,
And now, Quebec has made significant changes to the requirements that must be met by international students/students with local work experience who want to obtain permanent residency in Quebec. These changes affect the PEQ program, with some changes taking effect on November 1, 2019, and others starting next year. Many of the impacts go into effect tomorrow.
First of all, the PEQ study abroad category still retains the three-year application cycle after graduation, but this time with the addition of a restriction on the field of training. This means that all international students applying to the PEQ must ensure that their major is one of the Quebec degrees listed in Section A and Part II,Section B of the list of Quebec's trained majors.
For the PEQ work category, while Quebec Immigration has increased the list of occupations, the number of years of work corresponding to different occupations varies, depending on the National Occupational Classification (NOC) code of the job. For example, if you work in a NOC 0, A or B category, you must have 12 months of work experience in Quebec. In contrast, workers in NOC C or D need to have worked in Quebec for 18 months.
In addition, the language requirements for French, the official language of Quebec, have been changed somewhat, and this change will be implemented as of November 1, 2019. Applicants with accompanying spouses will also be subject to a new language requirement for spouse visa applicants: both the applicant and the spouse must demonstrate a high intermediate level of French, i.e., have taken French B2. Then the benefits that once required only the applicant to speak French but not the spouse will be gone for good.
In addition to the change in PEQ immigration conditions, all prospective immigrants to Quebec will be subject to a values test. This change will come into effect on January 1, 2020. Passing this test will result in a "certificate of study of DEMOCRATIC VALUES AND QUÉBEC VALUES AS EXPRESSED IN THE CHARTER OF HUMAN RIGHTS AND FREEDOMS". This will be used as a first step to obtain permanent residence in Quebec.
This exam gives any applicant who wishes to immigrate to Quebec two chances to take the exam. If you do not pass the exam the first time, you can take it again in two weeks. The minimum passing score is 75 points
The values test is a format that has never been used before. Here is a sample Quebec values test that is very interesting for you to try.
The PEQ policy in Quebec has changed a lot, but there is one general direction that has not changed, and that is French, after all it is the official and folk language of the region. Therefore, students who want to go to Quebec should focus on French.
